Doodles at the back of your notebook? Vandals on the street walls? Tattoos on the skin? Drums, guitars playing? Dressing up in a trendy way? Do you consider them as an Art?. Art is an expression of one's personality that differs us among the crowd. Each of us has various interpretation of art. It could be through writing, painting, sculpting, playing instruments and so on.
Since I'm talking art related matters here, I would like to share my short understanding about definitions of art that I had learned on the first class discussion of my ArtMusc subject. I was not expecting that there were lots of art definitions from different artist. But I chose only one that popped out my interest.
"Painting is easy when you don't know how,but very difficult when you do." -Edgar Degas.
Personally, I don't know the other mediums in painting but I just keep going as long as I am having fun. Painting as a subject is a serious matter.Students will learn how to use proper mediums such as watercolors, oil-based paints, codes of brushes and other tools to a certain painting. It will also teach a beginner on how to create a quality paintings which is good but I still prefer to paint on my own way. Even I had my basic painting class way back highschool, I tend to follow my style rather than following the guidelines because I am more comfortable with what I am used to.
Those are my paintings. What do you think guys? I hope it does not look bad.
Let us move on to the other points we have also tackled. Our professor showed us some video clips about the NCCA National Artist Award Controversy. Mr. Carlos J. Caparas was one of the intrigued group of artist that former president Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo personally chose. The crowd questioned the involvement of his name on the lists because he did not even undergo formal strict screenings and yet he was declared as easy as that. For me, I appreciate every effort and unique ideas of others. As long as you are creative, you are an artist. But when it comes in to the eyes of the art masters, its not easy to choose which is which and who is who. Thousands of artistic minds are striving to be part of the nationwide artists but very limited are being chosen. I think by seeing the quality of artworks, popularity it gained and have it examined by the artistic community are the formal steps in measuring a person to be an artist.
