Altercasting is said to be a strategy oftentimes used in advertisements and health promotions. Manded Altercasting represents what the person is supposed to do in a given situation because he occupies a certain status in the society. For example, Parents often start with "You as a student must....." every time they scold or advice us about our grades and school performances. They know that a student must possess characteristics that will make him do good in school.
While Tact Altercasting means, a person put himself as a sender in a role that evokes a natural counter-role for the other. In relation to the given example in the first type of altercasting, parents should possess good characteristics for their children to adapt and apply it in life. Indeed, they must serve as models to their sons and daughters to have better life and family in the future. Another good example of it are house maids. They were hired to maintain the cleanliness of the house, cook meals every morning, afternoon and evening, take care of the children when her boss went out, and other house chores. The role of the maid is to accomplish things that their boss could not manage because they were too busy in their careers. Since the maid was the one who is responsible for her boss' properties, she must show that she can be depended on without someone saying that to her.
